8 PM Greasy Peas Film Fest
Cutting-edge shorts celebrating urban rebirth and creative resistance! From the
ground up, diverse communities are using bicycles, gardens,
counter-economies and more to redefine culture and public space.
In 2011 on a shoestring budget of under $15,000 made up of mostly
individual donations and a volunteer staff, Troy Bike Rescue was able to
accomplish some great feats!
We….
-purchased a building with
the help of the Community Loan Fund, renovated it, moved in, and opened
up our North Troy workshop space
-became a full-fledged 501c3
-built a pilot summer youth program with other community organizations
-put over a hundred recycled bikes back on the road
-provided several internships for college and high-school students
-did an un-supported bike trip to the Maine-coast and back
-made a series of web-videos about our exploits in and out of the shop
-and... won the TRIP Troy Treasure Award
Already in 2012, we have….
-made more improvements to the workshop space
-more than doubled our open hours
-received 4 new bike racks from the CDTA
-distributed over 50 helmets to local youth
-registered over 50 kids for our weekly 'youth shop'
-made our monthly womens' night a weekly event
-provided internships to three college students, and one teen
Imagine what we could do with even more support!
Are you ready for the bicycle revolution?
Come show your love for TBR!
